October 2024 Hearing Their Needs Registration Open for Catalight’s Elevate Your Impact Virtual Conference Catalight Classroom Offers Continuing Education on Innovations That Will Expand Access to Autism Care Rethinking the Gold Standard for Autism Treatment How Should You Celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month? By Being You OCTOBER 2024 Hearing Their Needs In the latest episode of our podcast, “What’s Up With Catalight!,” internationally renowned author and lecturer Peter Vermeulen, a Passwerk Lifetime Achievement Award winner for his more than 30 years of work in the field of autism, talks about not letting autism overshadow the needs of a child. To support children with autism, we must understand what’s important to them as a human and adjust our perspective to help them in their pursuit of greater wellbeing. At Catalight, our clinicians take time to listen to the specific needs and wants of a client and their caregivers. By helping them identify real world goals then supporting them in their journey to that point, we strive to make advances that truly make families happier. Our care isn’t simply about trying to address autism symptoms so much as it’s about building the means for clients and families to develop better relationships and, ultimately, enhancing quality of life. We invite you to listen to the podcast below and truly listen to the children with autism in order to better understand them and support their needs. Registration Open for Catalight’s Elevate Your Impact Virtual Conference The Elevate Your Impact conference is back, bigger and better than ever. Catalight’s virtual conference will take place on March 13-14. This year the theme is ‘Optimizing Outcomes’ and the event is open to all licensed/certified practitioners, complete with continuing education opportunities, as well as students, caregivers and self-advocates. Catalight Classroom Offers Continuing Education on Innovations That Will Expand Access to Autism Care The recently launched Catalight Classroom offers web-based learning for any practitioner seeking training on treatment options to use in their practice. With certificates offered in parent-mediated and ABA coaching, methods are taught to help practitioners, clinicians and students improve client outcomes by providing personalized care while pursuing greater wellbeing. Rethinking the Gold Standard for Autism Treatment Catalight Chief Clinical Officer Doreen Samelson, Ed.D., MSCP, and Vice President of Clinical Excellence Lindsey Sneed, Ph.D., BCBA, wrote an op-ed for Psychology Today about how, when it comes to autism treatment, less can often be more. The article looks at a recent JAMA Pediatrics study that found no significant association between the amount of intervention and improved outcomes.
